Abandoned Car Sparks Concern With Lancashire Residents

15th November 2011

An vehicle left abandoned in a street in Rossendale, Lancashire has left residents concerned.

The blue Suzuki Wagon which has been abandoned for almost a week is parked almost 2ft away from the curb, leaving locals concerned that it may block larger emergency vehicles.

Local resident Nigel Birch said, "The car first appeared last Wednesday. On one side of the street there are semi detached houses with driveways and on the other side there are terrace houses.

"All the residents park on the terraced houses side of the road to allow access to the driveways and to give vehicles using the road more space."

Mr Birch visited neighbours but no-one could confirm an owner.

Lancashire County Council have said that the car is taxed and is not parked in a restricted area, and therefore cannot be removed.

They added that the residents did the right thing by contacting the police.

A spokesperson for the Police said "At this stage this is not a police matter, this is an issue for the local authority."
