Bad weather in Lancashire is being blamed for a sharp rise in road accidents last week.

5 separate incidents were recorded on January 2nd 2012, each involving different vehicles including HGVs and luxury cars.

In one particular accident, a total of four cars were involved, one coming to rest up and embankment.

In another accident on the A646, a lorry overturned and the road had to be temporarily closed.

"Highways officers reported hail showers and poor driving conditions in the area at the time," the Lancashire Telegraph reported.

The Met Office also said that residents of Lancashire can expect to see more bad weather over the next few weeks.
