A road in Blackburn will have to be dug up and relaid after clumsy workmen used the wrong materials.
The subcontractors have been ordered to resurface Oak Grove in Darwen following an inspection by Capita, who manages the highway and road network on behalf of the council.
Reports stated that the contractors had changed their suppliers of chippings half way through the job, and will now have to completely resurface the road.
A spokesperson for the council said: "We were not happy with the quality of the work when we went to carry out the checks and have asked the contractor to resurface the road at no cost to the council.
"The correct material is robust and will last longer.
The news comes days after a similar incident on Queen Victoria street where a slate mix was used instead of granite.
The council also ordered the demolition of a giant planter hours after its completion last week because it did not match the surrounding area.
Residents of Oak Grove have been left furious with the work. One local said: "It should have be done right in the first place."
