Two drunk-drivers from Burnley who stole a car and caused a 'horrendous' accident have both been jailed.
Burnley crown court heard how the two men stole a Citroen Picasso and crashed it onto a pavement, almost hitting several pedestrians and colliding with a number of cars.
One of the men was found in the foot well of the vehicle and was taken to hospital.
The owner of the stolen vehicle was washing her car when she was approached by one of the men and asked to call a taxi. While she did so the car was taken.
Neither of the two owned up to driving the car at the time of the accident, however they pleaded guilty to the charges in court and were both banned from driving for three years.
Judges said that from the evidence, the accident "could have led to one or more deaths. It was purely good fortune that that did not happen."
